- Discover Carmignano, a lovely little village near Florence
- Vineyards tour and visit of two wine cellars
- Guided tasting of three wines with a sommelier
This charming and unique country place called Carmignano (West of Florence) was chosen by the Grand Duke Cosimo III to be one of only four areas dedicated to wine production in 1716, even if wine had been produced in Carmignano since the Etruscan time. In the 18th century, the producers of the Carmignano region developed a tradition of blending Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon, long before the practice became popularized by the "Super Tuscan" of the late 20th century.
Visiting Carmignano vineyards, farms and cellars you will understand the history of this wine.
In this tour you will get to visit 2 different cellars: Two different places in the heart of Carmignano DOCG, two different wines, two different philosophies.
You will see how a bottle of this precious wine “grows”, from the Heart to the consumer. We will show you how a wine-maker creates a wine, a blend of at least 50 percent sangiovese, up to 20 percent cabernet sauvignon, plus 20 percent caniolo nero and five percent mammolo and/or colorino.
You will taste 3 different wines, “born” in Carmignano DOCG. A white wine made of Trebbiano and Malvasia del Chianti, a Rosè wine 100% Sangiovese and a “Riserva” of Red Carmignano, though not as powerful as its Tuscan cousins whose grapes come from lower altitudes, has firm tannins, slightly lower acidity and a great deal of herbaceous aromas. All those wines will be match with typical Tuscan finger food.
This tour is leaded by Alessio Cecchini a sommelier nearly graduated in enology at the Università degli studi di Firenze.
