What to expect

A master of reportage photography, but first and foremost an artist capable of investigating the relationship between man and nature and himself. Making himself narrator of the extraordinary everyday life and constantly seeking the truth, Werner Bischof was a true archaeologist of human feelings.

The exhibition, created in collaboration with Werner Bischof Estate and Magnum Photos, makes use of one hundred and five shots of which include female nudes, investigations into nature, portraits with an unusual use of light and great journeys to remote places, devastated by war or exalted by the indigenous culture.

The exhibition is divided into eight sections that reconstruct the artistic life of Bischof through images that span a period of time ranging from 1934 to 1954. The proposed layout allows us to appreciate the evolution of the career of this great Swiss photographer, moving between Zurich and a war-torn Europe, and then extending his gaze towards the East, engraving fragments of lives and stories collected in India, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Indochina, until another turn of the wrist, the American stage, north and especially south of the continent.

An experiential and emotional journey that marks the artist's passion for aesthetics, research, ethical and moral values, as well as the ability to represent the dichotomies of existence, between development and poverty, business and spirituality, modernity and tradition. The exhibition also includes the famous shot of a Peruvian child playing the flute, who Bischof met in the Andes in 1954, shortly before losing his life following a road accident.
